  Today’s outing, the 8th and final scoring outing of the season, took us to beautiful Tulfarris in county Wicklow. It was a course that we visited as a society for a captain’s day during the COVID years and today it proved a real test for all.

  A total of 24 players took to the lakeside course and in search of the all important player of the year points. Going into today’s round, just four points separated Robbie in first and Ian in second but there were some big guns waiting in the wings too!

  With that in mind, the committee put Robbie and Ian out together for a final shoot out. Surprisingly though, theirs were cards that were scratch ridden with neither player breaking the mid 20s for first time this year. Just goes to show you that they’re human after all!

  That meant that it was time for others to step up and try and tame the tough championship course. We had plenty of willing contenders for today’s crown but it was Johnny Ryan who pushed the boat out and came in with a savage haul of 39 points!!! Well done Johnny, very well deserved victory today!

  Well that’s today taken care of and the curtain comes down on the competitive player of the year points events for 2024. It has been a fabulous year for golf with some outrageous scoring in our outings and for the most part we managed to avoid heavy rain on any of our outings. On the contrary, we’ve had some cracking days out on some of the best courses in Ireland. We would like to sincerely thank everyone in the society for their membership and continued support of our outings.

  So…. how did that leave things at the top and how has been crowned 2024 Player of the Year?

  Well with a grand total of 191 points from 5 outings our Player of the Year for 2024 is ROBBIE WALSH. Commiserations to Ian Duffy who run Robbie so close throughout and finished just 4 point back on 187 from 5 outings. Despite a fantastic 36 in today’s outing from Gerry, he was just pipped by David Geraghty to third with David finishing on 183 points from 5 outings.
